Type Locality and Naming
Xie Jiarong erected the Tuoli conglomerate in 1933. The reference section is from Dayuanshang to south of Majiafen through Gangshang in the Fangshan District of Beijing and the reference section 2 is at Zhangdian of the Fangshan District of Beijing. (borehole No. fengqian-2).
Lithology and Thickness
The Tuoli Formation is divided into two members, the upper and the lower. Lower member is mainly represented by brown sandy conglomerate. Upper member is purple gray sandy conglomerate. The formation is 766.4 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by brown sandy conglomerate is distinguished from purple conglomerate and sandstone of the underlying XinzhuangBeijing Fm. It is a conformable contact.
Upper contact
Its top is bounded by the appearance of dark purple and variegated sandy conglomerate. It is a conformable contact.
Regional extent
The present formation mainly occurs in the Tuoli-Nanfang-Zhangzhuang hilly area.

Fossils
The formation yields bivalves Sphaerium jeholense, S. andersonni; ostracods Cypridea bona, C. angustricaudata.
